Exploring the Benefits of Cold Immersion Therapy
Cold immersion therapy is fairly straightforward: it involves briefly immersing yourself in cold water (usually around 59° F). Studies suggest this technique can have several potential benefits, particularly for athletes:
- Reduce pain, swelling, and inflammation
- Decrease muscle soreness after a workout
- Improve mode and mental focus
- Promote cardiovascular health
There’s also some evidence that the technique can help boost your immune system and promote good mental health.

What To Expect From Cold Immersion Therapy
At The Training Room, we incorporate cold immersion therapy into our comprehensive treatment plans, particularly for athletes rehabilitating after an injury.
We utilize the Edge tub, a specialized tub that cools water to our target temperature of 50° F – 59° F. The tub is self-cooling, so we don’t use ice to reach the chilly temperatures, ensuring an accurate temperature.
Typically, we’ll have you spend 15 minutes in the cold water after your physical therapy session. This helps reduce any pain and can facilitate a faster recovery.
However, depending on your injury and rehabilitation goals, our team will work closely with you to find the best ways to utilize cold immersion therapy in your treatment plan.
